San Cristobal de Las Casas - The Surrounding Mountains

I have been to the mountains in Colorado, New Mexico and Kentucky. But I have never enjoyed the mountains as much as when I visited San Cristobal. It is a long and slow drive to get to the town of San Cristobal, but well worth it.

You are up in the clouds most of the time. The mountains are all around you and as far as you can see. Much of the time all you can see is the tops of the peaks pushing through the thick layer of soft white clouds.

There are plenty of photo opportunities on this ride. If at all possible, go by bus or chauffeured van. You will not want the pressure or distraction of having to drive as well as admire the view. Plus you are up pretty high with a very long drop down on the sides of the road. It is better to let someone experienced have the wheel.

The locals drive really fast on those mountain roads!

Once you have made the trip to San Cristobal, you will be impressed just as we were and you will want to return.
